BIO

Alanna Stapleton (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Minneapolis, MN. Stapleton makes work that uses humor to explore everyday moments of joy and grief to reveal an understanding of identity and community.

With a background as an illustrator and visual problem solver, her interdisciplinary approach to making was cultivated while earning an MFA at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Stapleton continues to make work motivated by the overlaps, intersections, and in-betweens of textiles, illustration, zines, and education.

As an educator, Stapleton is interested in facilitating learning environments that encourage the development of accessible and enriching creative practices. She aims to teach students how to engage enthusiastically with the creative process and to think critically about their aesthetic choices while strengthening their technical craft skills.

Stapleton’s work has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators NY and been shown at Gowanus Print Lab, Soo Visual Arts Center, Light Grey Art Lab, the Textile Center, Drake University, and more. She was a contributing illustrator to Rookie Mag, taught illustration and drawing at Northern Michigan University, and facilitated wellness-focused arts programming for students and community at Wheelhouse Studios, University of Wisconsin-Madison’s art studio. Stapleton currently works in Graduate Admissions at MCAD and is a teaching artist at the Textile Center.
